Woke up at 11AM today and spent most of the day watching television. Hooray for long weekends!
Lat night, I watched the remake of Willy Wonka at my bestfriend's house, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" it was called. It was a fun movie but I still prefer the original version with Gene Wilder. I remember when my sister and I used to recite the lines and sing the songs together with the characters in the movie. We've seen it too many times to memorize each line.
My siblings and I grew up watching many films, most of which we've memorized from playing it over and over. My dad sent those VHS tapes regularly that we've built a library of various movies and TV shows. Our collection of sitcoms and TV series were recorded by my dad from his television, he'd send it along with other goodies in a balikbayan box. I could say my dad was among the first "pirata". We didn't have cable TV when we were growing up but we were attuned to various hit shows in the US in those days. seinfeld, mad about you, friends, grace under fire, home improvement, ER, the practice... I guess dad found a way to bring some of America to us through these shows.
Going back to Willy Wonka, the new version featured oompa loompas bearing just one frightening face. Kids could get nightmares staring at that face! He looked disgruntled if not resentful of his job at the chocolate factory...
The original oompa loompas had orange faces and green hair and looked much happier. I remember when my ate's 6-footer boyfriend used to tease her that when they have kids, they'd be as small as oompa loompas and he would proceed to imitate their dance moves. Many years thereafter, my sister now of course has an oompa loompa of her own, no thanks to her boyfriend, our lovey, Jeff-jeff.
I wonder if I'll ever have an oompa loompa of my own. Chances are not that big since I have polycystic ovaries, the doctors say. I will have my annual PE next week and maybe I will ask the doctor then, just to be sure. If it will be found that I can have kids, maybe I'd change my mind about bearing a child of my own. I'd look up to see if 2007 will be a good year to be pregnant. :-)
